Smoked deer skin dyed medium brown; blue and pink silk cuffs backed with black stroud/wool material; red/pink/blue/green/white/yellow silk; porcupine quills.
Inset vamp, with puckered toe and cuff sewn on; blue silk of cuff is pieced together (could possibly be two wide ribbons sewn together to make the cuff).
Stylized floral motif; according to an assessment by Wahsontiio Cross during a GRASAC visit to the Weltmuseum Wien, the orange and blue motif on the cuff looks like strawberry plants based on the 3 leaves, and the red balls that look like berries. The other one cuff looks like it may be depicting strawberry plants in blossom.
According to an assessment by Wahsontiio Cross during a GRASAC visit to the Weltmuseum Wien, she saw a Mohawk moccasin that is similar at the NMAI. Additionally, these moccasins are labeled as a pair, but they belong to two different pairs of moccasins.
Johann Georg Schwarz collected this item, possibly when he traveled to Detroit and through Upper Canada in the winter of 1820-1821.
