Introduction

A pair of women's leggings made of red woolen and decorated with beaded strips, German silver button and ribbons; to fit tightly, the leggings were sewn along the contour of the owner's leg; obtained from a Mesquakie woman, the grandmother, near Tama, Iowa; purchased from William Jones.

Materials

Techniques or Format

Two rectengular pieces of red woolen were folded lengthwise and sewn along the contour of the leg; each front-flap is decorated with a beaded strip, German silver button, and the woolen edges are bound with ribbons. Leather foot loops are attached at the bottom. Sewing done with cotton thread.

The leather strips at the lower edge were used to fasten the legging tightly to the foot
