Woman's leggings. Hodenosaunee, Seneca. From the Allegany Reservation, New York. Collected by Joseph Keppler and George Gustav Heye, and acquired by the National Museum of the American Indian in 1918.

Materials

Navy woolen cloth; red silken ribbon, size 11 or 12 opaque white beads; beige thread; black thread

Techniques or Format

Each legging is made from a single piece of cloth. Both have been sewn up the front seam, with a space of around 5cm left open at the bottom.

Dimensions: 39 × 2 × 0 cm
Condition: Good. The ribbon is deteriorating in some areas, and a stain on one legging. There are a few small holes in the cloth.
