Woman's leggings. Hodenosaunee, from the Six Nations of the Grand River. Collected by Joseph W. Keppler and acquired by the National Museum of the American Indian in 1906.

Materials

blue woolen cloth, cotton cloth (printed with a plaid pattern - lines the inside of the leggings), brown cotton tape, beige thread, opaque white, blue, yellow, mustard and translucent red seed beads, approx. size 14 and opaque white beads size 12 (for edging). Six "white heart" beads used in place of translucent red in the beading pattern.

Techniques or Format

Legging A has been mended near the middle of the seam.

Motifs and Patterns

Bottom: a row of inward facing 4-curve motifs, with a central curve, with spaced filled with coloured beads.
Side: a row of chained circles.

Dimensions: 39 × 21 × 0 cm
Condition: There are some holes in the blue woolen cloth.
