Woman's leggings. Hodenosaunee, Seneca. From the Tonawanda Reservation, New York. Collected by Joseph W. Keppler and acquired by the National Museum of the American Indian in 1917.

Materials

navy woolen cloth, black cloth, red silken tape, opaque white beads sizes 16 and 12, size 16 opaque dusty rose beads, size 14 translucent green beads, beige and black thread,

Techniques or Format

Each legging has been cut to flare out at the bottom. The top third of both leggings is sewn onto the bottom part, and on one legging is made entirely from a black cloth, and on the other, it is made from the black cloth and a separate piece of the navy woolen cloth.
On the back of each legging, about 3cm up from the bottom edge, an extra piece of navy cloth, 3cm by 6cm, has been sewn to the inside.

Dimensions: 43 × 21 × 0 cm
Condition: The red silken tape has deteriorated, and there has been some bead loss.
