Woman's leggings. Hodenosaunee, from the Grand River Reservation in Ontario. Collected by Joseph W. Keppler and acquired by the National Museum of the American Indian in 1906.

Materials

red woolen cloth with a black dyed selvedge line running horizontally along the top of each legging, navy cloth, navy silken ribbon, beige thread, opaque white beads sizes 16 and 12.

Motifs and Patterns

Bottom: bottom to top: two rows of chained circles with size 10 beads in the centre of each circle/row of outward curving 3-curve motifs, bases embellished with a single size 10 bead in the centre.
Side: row of chained circles with size 10 beads in the centre of each circle/ row of zig zags

Dimensions: 38 × 21 × 0 cm
Condition: There is a bit of staining on one of the leggings, and some brownish residue on some of the beads.
