Wapagad/Wapagase to Mr. Jones, 25 March 1819.
Wapagad/Wapagase to Mr. Jones, 25 March 1819.
Wapagad/Wapagase to Mr. Jones, 25 March 1819.
Wapagad/Wapagase is requesting 50 pounds from Mr. Jones, the Indian Agent for Port Sarnia, because his governmental duties have precluded him from being able to pay on both the credit he owes and to support his family. He also asks that Mr. Jones let the Governor know that he and several other Indians "all feel dissatisfied with the distribution of the goods and money sent to Port Sarnia the last season for the Indians." ; This letter may indicate a decline in British interest in maintaining the contract made in the giving of the 24 Nations belt at Niagara 55 years earlier.
