A Huron-Wendat Calling Card Tray of birchbark with moosehair embroidery. Mid-18th to early 19th century. Given to the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in 1992 by Marshall Becker.

birchbark; moosehair, white and dyed blue, green, orange/red, yellow, pinkish-red; black cotton thread.
Two layers of birchbark sewn together, with a square flat bottom and four sloping sides with heart-shaped tops sewn to the base. The seams are covered with bundled hairs or quills tacked down with thread and interwoven with other threads to form decorative checkerboard and stried patterns. The panels are embroidered through an insertion technique.
