Introduction

This relative, a cloth bandolier (?) strap, includes remnants of animal hide (potentially beaver) in the centre portion, which is edged with white, translucent blue, and black glass wampum beads. The strap is composed of linen cloth and includes traces of red paint on the hair of the animal hide. Tinned iron cones have been fastened with hide thongs at each end, along with red-dyed animal hair and vegetable fibre. Three cones are fastened at one end, four at the other. The origins of the strap are not certain; however, it has probable connections to the Eastern Great Lakes, dating to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century.

This relative currently resides at the National Museum of Ireland.
