The MNAEF acquired this item through an exchange with an unknown party, arranged by MNAEF director Prof. Enrico Giglioli. To obtain the snowshoes, Giglioli gave away several museum items (908, 909, 910), all of them monkey hair. "Avute dal Prof. Giglioli in cambio di crini di scimmie." (Catalogo cronologico del Museo nazionale d'Antropologia di Firenze, 1870).
