A Mesquakie dance shirt, decorated with brooches and beadwork. The catalogue information states that it was "bought from a white trader." Collected by Mary Alicia Owen near Tama, Iowa in the late 19th century. Acquired by Cambridge University's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in 1976.

red printed cotton cloth; black velveteen; black silk ribbon; glass beads, opaque white, blue, green, red, orange, translucent green and smokey grey; silver coloured metal beads; red wool yarn tassels; white metal disks; gold metal bar brooch; thread; small snaps.
Made of red cotton cloth with a high small-ruffled collar and snaps up the front opening. A front piece or bib is made of black velveteen, and decorated with beadwork. On the left front, silver brooches are pinned to a red ribbon attached near the collar. On the right side, there is a string of metallic or metal beads, with red tassels and an other brooch at the top. A line of ribbon runs horizontally around the shirt, about one fifth of the way down from the top on the front, and about one half of the way down on the back. The cuffs are made of black velveteen and are decorated with beadwork similar to that which is on the bib.
The red cloth has a pattern of small anchors. The beadwork is stylized floral motifs on a stem or vine.
