A Hodenosaunee beaded sewing kit with a pincushion and pocket inside. Made before 1930. Given to the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology by Mrs. Hampton L. Carson in 1930.

red-pink woolen cloth; striped floral embroidered manufactured cloth lining; faded pink silk ribbon; small translucent beads; translucent tubular beads; brown thread; beige thread.
The outside is decorated with raised beadwork. The inside has a pincushion on one side and a pocket on the other. Both sides are sewn together and edged with ribbon and a beaded fringe. Pieces of ribbon are attached to both ends, as ties to close the pincushion.
Floral motifs.
This type of beaded pincushion was made by Hodenosaunee women to sell to Euro-North American tourists around Niagara Falls in the mid to late nineteenth century.
The earliest date is based on style. The item was acquired by the museum in 1930.
