Carved steatite with lead inlay
Techniques or Format
Steatite, L-shaped pipe bowl with square-sectioned base and flaring circular-sectioned bowl. Large rectangular fin along top of base with serrated upper edge and two large square piercings. Grooved collar at proximal end.
Motifs and Patterns
Arrow motifs are inlaid in lead along either side of base and pendant to the mouth of the bowl. Engraved lines parallel the edges along the side. Engraved on bottom: J x S

Initials carved on the bottom: "J X S"
