Motifs and Patterns

Three of the four sides are incised: facing the smoker is a fishnet pattern, side facing away from smoker is a grid pattern overlaid with an "X", left side is referred to in the archaeology as a "square and compass" but Heidi Bohaker does not find this description accurate.

From Annual Archaeological Report of Ontario for 1887. Provincial archaeologist David Boyle wrote: "the appearance of the square and compasses which are plainly enough seen on the front side of the squared central portion." See publication history below for full citation details.
