Introduction

A head ornament made of animal hair, with quillwork. Northeastern North American. Collected by Captain Harding and Pickering, and donated to the British Museum in 1893.

Animal hair (possibly horse hair); dye, red and yellow; wooden tube; hide; quills, dyed red, turquoise blue and white.

Techniques or Format

Hairs bundled and sewn together. A patch of yellow hair has been yellowed through a leaching technique.

Dimensions: 115 × 0 × 0 cm
Condition: Fair. It is fragile.
