French conquest stressed, now must rely on English as only people left to trade with. Wants to clear a road for safe travel to St. Mary’s, expects the Indians to help. Stresses English are trustworthy friends. Promises to punish errant traders and give them necessities and rum before trade properly begins.
See page 307 for a belt regarding Toronto and Wabbicomicot: “large belt representing Niagara’s large house and fort, with two men holding it fast on each side, and a road through it, and desired that Wabicomicot and his people would settle at their old place of Abode near Toronto and have a careful eye over the fort and carrying place, and see that nothing should hurt either.”
