Introduction

moccasins

Date Made or Date Range: 1700s to 1925
Materials

hide, deer? The MNAEF record states the moccasins are made from tanned deer leather [pelle di cervo]. However, a note added later states that the material is very thin leather from an animal named "capriolo" [E' pelle di capriolo]. Secondary research undertaken by Emanuela Rossi and Stacey Loyer suggests that capriolo is a kind of deer found only in Europe and Asia.
