A pair of mid 19th century Huron-Wendat moccasins made with blackened hide and decorated with moosehair embroidery featuring floral motifs and zig-zag lines on the separate cuff and narrow puckered toe vamp. Purchased by Museum Volkenkunde from M.L.J. Lemaire in the 1960s.

Pair of moccasins made of blackened hide, with tightly puckered toe vamps that are decorated with moosehair embroidery. The vamps are slightly squared at the toe, are long and narrow and extend to form a tongue. The separate cuffs are bound with red ribbon and are tied across the front of the ankle. Moccasins are lined with red silk fabric.
Elaborate embroidery on the vamps and cuffs depicting floral motifs with curvilinear designs. White lines and zigzags along the border of the vamp and side and bottom of the cuffs.
