Moccasins
Hide moccasins decorated with dyed porcupine quillwork on vamps and cuffs. Attributed as either Huron or Mohawk in catalog record. Probably created in the late 18th- early 19th century. Collected by George Catilin, originally held by the Smithsonian Institution until they were exchanged with the Peabody Museum in 1888.

Hightop moccasin with vamp. 2 separate pieces of deerskin are sewn to create both sides of the "hightop". Vamp decorated with moosehair embroidery in curvilinear possibly floral motifs and bordered with bands of plaited quillwork and moosehair embroidery. "High tops" are ornamented at wth bottom edge with a fringe of tin cones filled with dyed animal hair. The high top panels decorated with moosehair emboirdery in foliate and floral motifs, top edge decorated with two bands of plaited quillwork.
