Date Made or Date Range: 1880s to 1910
Materials

Made of caribou hide, red wool fabric, rose wool braid, green silk ribbon, cotton fabric, glass beads, sinew and thread.

Techniques or Format

Mocassin upper has a central seam and a horizontal seam at the toe. The red collar is bound with wool braid and edged with blue beads.

Motifs and Patterns

Vamp has a bilaterally symmetrical floral design with solidly beaded background. The remains of a green ribbon rosette is present on one moccasin. Black, rose and white beads create a decorative repetitive pattern.

Other Notes

Due to the worn condition of the moccasins, it is presumed that they were old when collected.

Condition: Moccasins are very worn and have been patched (which obscures the heel detail).
