Introduction

This relative, a single child's moccasin, has quill embroidery on the cuffs, centre seam, and heel. The quills are red and white, forming a geometric pattern on the cuffs with 8 red hexagons on white background. The centre seam's decoration includes three bands alternating between white, red, and white. The quills along the heel are white only, and form a single vertical band. Along the bottom edge of the cuffs hang eight leather tassels, grouped in pairs of two. Each tassle is capped with tinned iron cones, with two pairs of brass cones. The moccasin's hide has been dyed a dark brown. The origins of the moccasin are not certain; however, it has probable connections to the Anishinaabe peoples.

This relative currently resides at the National Museum of Ireland.
