Introduction

Haudenosaunee beaded moccasin made of smoked hide, wool stroud, cotton tape with abstracted floral beadwork embroidered on vamp. Made prior to 1872.

Materials

White, iridescent white, light blue, pink,red and gold colored glass beads; smoked hide, blue wool cloth, velvet vamp, red cotton(?) ribbon for tie, red cotton tape, tan colored cotton

Techniques or Format

Hide moccasin lined with tan colored cotton fabric, with inset velvet vamp ornamented with beadwork and bound with red cotton tape. Cuffs made of blue wool cloth bound with red tape and beads along the tape edge. Cuffs to do not fold. Red ribbon tie sewn to the top corners of the cuffs to cross above the ankle

Condition: hole in the toe, beads missing on vamp and cotton tape worn in some spots
