Introduction

A miniature straw hat decorated with artificial flowers. Probably Hodenosaunee. Part of the Jamieson collection which was acquired by the Woodland Cultural Centre in June of 1994.

Materials

straw; silk or fabric flowers with plastic stems and centres on wire stems; cotton thread, beige

Techniques or Format

Straw has been woven or braided into strips, which were then coiled and sewn together into the shape of a hat. Artificial flowers decorate the outside of the hat, forming a band.
