Museum documentation

Date Made or Date Range: 1900s to 1914
Materials

red cotton flannel (definite ID, JHughes, CMC), white beads, beigey ribbon which may have been a green to begin with. 2 types of beads. 1 is a white, other type is a greyish white

Techniques or Format

1 piece folded with a seam, first pair we have seen with a 2" band of gathering, a slit 1/4 the way up the side of the seam. Use of different types of beads suggests that the beading was done from the bottom up (JBrant).

Motifs and Patterns

Beaded daisy chain along the sides, beaded daisy chain incorporated along the bottom edging, topped with 3 lobed flower motifs

Dimensions: 13 × 8.6 × 0 cm
Condition: 1 has a strip of discolouring, folded, from previous exhibit? On exhibit for 14 years. Shows significant fading. Generally soiled overall. Overall integrity generally worn in fairly good condition with fraying at the edges, silk ribbon in very fragile condition, lots of loss, splitting. Intrinsically weak because the fabric itself is not very strong. (JHughes).
