Techniques or Format

A pair of"two color leggings" made of red and dark blue wool cloth and decorated with silk ribbon applique, outlined or overlaid with small glass beads.

Motifs and Patterns

Chain link in yellow, elongated hexagon with an otter tail reference. 11 hexagons on each legging that traverse the legging in a diagonal manner. If the legging was not cut, a large 'X' would be visible. The 'X' is also visible when worn because each legging matches. However, the links of hexagons form a triangle on the lower part of the leggings (when together) below the knee. When leggings reversed, the hexagonal links would then form a triangle above the knee. The leggings are made of red and blue stroud cut and sewn together diagonally. Zig zag pattern on ribbon diagonal with alternating extra 'V' symbols.

Additional Context

Pendants on either side of the legging have been interpreted as a representation of the four legged creatures. Sometimes the pendant has a bell or bells attached to represent dew claws (cory Willmott May 13/ 2010). Salvage has been incorporated into the design at the top edge of the legging.
