Materials

Wool, printed cotton, silk ribbon, and glass beads. This is true broadcloth that is (was) expensive that was only available at the main fur trading posts such as Michilimackinac, Grand Portage, Fort William, Sault Ste Marie, and only in small quantities.

Motifs and Patterns

There are nine plants with three leaves at the base, eight have a flower, that run down along side the length of the legging. However, the positioning of the flowers off a leaf varies (refer to picture). Colour scheme of plants and beads varies on each of the four sides of the flaps of the leggings.
Individual beads applied around the design represent life. This is also diagnostic of Ojibwe type.

Additional Context

The rarity of this cloth would indicate that it can be associated with a high status family with ties to fur traders or to high status chiefs. This material would not have been available to everybody or just anybody.
