list cloth (not stroud) (list is synonymous with selvege); classic calico; selvage not visible (may be cut shorter) size 13 seed beads for hem motif, edging in size 9; rough silk tape on edging; lined with indigo blue discharge print
there is a style of this length; piecing looks original, cloth is all the same; made of smaller scraps; not sure if lining is only under beadwork or all the way around; all hand stitched (pre 1850); The beading is done with natural and blue cotton threads of old type. the beading is worked through the broadcloth and the lining
Stylized bud within a somewhat triangular frame, with stylized leaves on each side. Between the motifs blue crosses.
stroud vs list: stroud -- fuzzy (cannot see weave); list can see weave; list is more characteristic of yorkshire; stroud is earlier than list and mutates into broadcloth(finer)
very rough top edge; worn considerably; missing beads may indicate a garter used to be there;
Dating suggested is based on the cotton print used for lining (CMC record)
