Hand sewn legging made of two pieces of red stroud exterior, lined with dark blue calico cotton, Bottom and side edges are (were) edged with faded blue bias tape, Hem stitched on with dark brown thread, Middle joint covered with bias tape with brown cotton thread using a whip-stitch, Buckskin thong whip-stitched on edges with brass beads begins roughly at same level as middle joint and continued to the bottom of legging, Beadwork is confined to lower (11.5 cm) legging and displays geometric design of straight lines and scallops, All beadwork has double row construction, with straight and scallop lines alternating except for the top two scallop lines, Beadwork secured with overlay stitch every 2-3 beads, with occasional double row anchoring.

Collection records indicate that this artifact was acquired by Paul Kane on his travels from 1846-1848.
Provenance
Collection made by Paul Kane on his travels from 1846-48. Was given by him to his patron, G. W. Allan of Toronto, Ontario. Mrs. R. D. Baker donated the collection to The Manitoba Museum in 1941. Prior to donation, the material was kept in the Allan home in Toronto and in their summer home at Kenora, Ontario.
