Materials

dark brown dyed smoked hide, burgundy silk ribbon, moose hair embroidery (2 shades of blue, darker blue and paler blue-- white-- pink, orange possibly faded from red), natural vegetable dyes

Techniques or Format

constructed of 2 pieces. Sheath part is one piece, stitched up the side, coming to a point, at the top a loop which is attached, edged with a silk ribbon. Hide is fringed along the edge of the sheath section.

Motifs and Patterns

floral, stylized-- scallops framing the design field on both the sheath and the handle. Scallops are filled in in the sheath section (alternating orange blue) and belt loop section the scallops are not filled in. RP we need a vocabulary for describing specific floral motifs. LS reminded us that Speck has done this work

Condition: mouldy, refer to conservation-- some stitching missing
