Headdress in the form of a gustoweh with beaded sun and crayfish motifs around the band. Worn by wife of Chief John Tecumseh Henry to meet the Prince of Wales at Sarnia in 1860. Dr. Oronhyatekha Ethnology collection.
John Tecumseh Henry was Anishinaabe, but his wife's nation is not known.

Red cotton, brown velvet, blue cotton tape, front medallion on brown wool with red cotton tape around edge; assorted feathers including hawk and eagle; size 10 transparent clear and rose; white lined rose, opaque grey, mustard, periwinkle blue, white, greasy turquoise, teal; white bugle beads
Cap constructed of a cap of red cotton lined with ? with a and a band of brown velvet around the edge embroidered in applique technique with beads, separate medallion sewn to centre front, feathers tied in bundles with string into four clumps, three sewn to the back of the band, one sewn to the medallion
8-lobed flower or star with red centre in the medallion, sun like motifs alternating with crayfish motifs around the band
Construction of this headdress resembles an Onkwehonwe gustoweh
Garments worn by John Tecumseh Henry and his wife are documented as having been worn at the 1860 meeting with the Prince of Wales, but could have been made and worn during the 1840s during their performances in Europe
