Date Made or Date Range: 1841/1842
Materials

dark brown walnut dyed smoked hide-- lined with white wool cloth, moose hair (white, red, blue, pale green, creamy yellow &#38-- pink in natural dyes)--

Techniques or Format

Glove constructed of 1 piece of hide with a thumb insert. Single seam goes down little finger side. Inserts for each finger. Hairs attached by overcast/oversewn stitch technique. Possible trim was around wrist opening as some remnant stiching remains.

Motifs and Patterns

floral, stylized-- very strong lines organize the floral design. Stem runs up the fingers with flowers on each side. RP. Says someone very cleverly worked floral motifs effectively into glove shape. Aesthetic here was to fill the design field. Does not have scalloped edging. Has line of very small zig zags with parallel lines framing the design fields. Designs on each glove are not the same - yet balanced and similar.

RP: gloves are extraordinary. Masterpiece of Wendat moose hair embroidery.

Condition: Lining almost completely gone, a few holes in the hide,
