This item is an unfinished pair of garters that was heddle woven and tied together by the linen warp threads. Outer ends were braided into tassels with the addition of woolen yarn. Symmetrical designs of X-shapes with diamond in the middle, otter tails, triangles, and rectangles were included with bead colors of opaque white, black, shades of blue, greens, opaque yellow, opaque yellow-gold, opaque mustard, color-lined red, transparent burgundy, and dusty rose. This item has an unknown origin and was acquired by the museum in 1953 from Mrs. Charles Scudder.

Heddle woven. Unfinished pair of garters. Middle of the warp threads have been cut and knotted together in the process of making the garters. One outer end is finished, the other is not. Ends of the warps are braided into the tasseled clumps. 11 tassels on finished side, 8 tassels on unfinished side. 10 warp threads in each tassel clump.
Symmetrical panels. X-shapes (pair) with diamond in the middle. Inner space otter tail. Triangles, rectangles, stepped.
From identifying what is finished and unfinished, it is easier to see the process/order in which it was constructed.
