dress, woman's, with Japanese influence print, collected by Dr. Edward Sapir, Onkwehonwe (Iroquois, Hodenosaunee), Six Nations Reserve, Brantford, Ontario, made before 1911.

Materials

printed cotton purple, blue cotton neck band, small brooch brass coloured, silk ribbons, grosgrain tape, inside of the wrist cuff lined with blue striped fabric.

Techniques or Format

Gathered Yoke, front consists of 2 gathered panels, set in sleeves. partially lined with unbleached cotton, partially machine sewn and partially hand sewn, separate band around the neck, back panel goes to just above the west, and then there is another square. No button holes -- was a scarf worn over with a brooch/pin. Markings showing that there were other such pins. Ribbon applique sewn on to a limegreen colour grosgrain tape, with 2 bead edging.

Motifs and Patterns

Japanese influence print. saw tooth or zig zag on the applique.
