Techniques or Format

Machine and hand sewn; Red velvet child's dress of a European style; Consists of bodice, skirt and sleeves; Dress made with round neckline and closed at back by means of hand sewn silver coloured metal zipper, extending the length of the bodice at the back; Front and back of bodice consists of four panels of velvet sewn together vertically, eight in total; Sleeves are long and inset; Skirt consists of four velvet panels sewn together vertically; Waist area decorated with eight tin cutouts; Cutouts fastened to dress with cotton thread passed through a hole punched into the tin.

Motifs and Patterns

Front decorated with twelve round metal cutouts; Cutouts are silver on one side and red/black/white/blue on reverse; Cuff of sleeves decorated with six to seven tin cutouts; Row of four tin cutouts also decorates skirt halfway down; Bottom of skirt decorated with machine sewn black and blue cloth band with central strip of red rickrack; Top edge of black cloth bordered with row of plastic pearl-like beads in jumping stitch; Bottom edge decorated with numerous red and maroon cloth tabs attached with silver metal tinkles; Latter have green/red/white/black colour and lettering on inside.
