Introduction

Anishinaabe quilled cigar box or case with lid from the Lake Superior region. Made of birchbark trimmed with possibly silk ribbon and sewn with thread. Ornamented with dyed quillwork in floral and foliate motifs.

Techniques or Format

The case is made of pieces of birchbark trimmed with possibly silk(?) ribbon that have been sewn together with thread. The birchbark has been ornamented with dyed quillwork in floral and foliate motifs. The body of the case has a birchbark liner which extends above the outer birchbark sides. The lid fits securely over the liner and when in place it is flush with the body of the case. The lid of the case has been lined with paper.
