Introduction

A Huron-Wendat birchbark cigar box or case decorated with moosehair embroidery depicting floral motifs and possibly gathering and cooking scenes, made between 1875-1900. Gifted to the museum by the widow of Johannes Bruining-Lindo in 1948.

The case is made of pieces of birchbark sewn with thread, with couching technique used along the edges. The birchbark has been ornamented with dyed moose hair embroidery with scenes from daily life depicting possibly gathering and cooking.
