Introduction

A model birch bark canoe with a wooden frame, a curving pointed prow and stern and two struts across the open part. Probably Anishinaabe, made before 1870. It has been part of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery's collection since before 1870.

The canoe has a wooden frame with curving pointed prow and stern and two struts across the open part. Bark has been stitched over the frame with sinew, and bound with leather around the top edge. The canoe has been covered in black varnish.

A black varnish covering it indicates it was acquired by the museum before 1870.
