An Algonquin model birchbark canoe with quilled decoration, made between 1800-1850. Acquired by the museum through an exchange with the Christy Collection in 1869.

Made of a single piece of birchbark. Rims or gunwales made of wood splint secured with spruce root. Lining and ribs made of possibly ash splint(?). Both sides of the canoe are ornamented with quillwork designs.

Condition:
Very poor, both ends of the canoe are missing, cannot be removed from the mount
