Made of a single piece of wood, either Flex verticillata "Black Alder" or Rhamnus alnifalia "Buck thorn" (Dr. Day). Thorny knots all along length of cane with root end carved to represent a face with broken nose. Back of head deeply curved, some cracking along neck area. Was painted black but some loss of paint. High patina on top of head from use.;;
