Introduction

This relative, a burden strap, is decorated with moosehair embroidery of geometric designs. Although the origins of this relative are not certain, it is probably Haudenosaunee/Hodenosaunee or Huron-Wendat.

Other Notes

Nikolaus Stolle: the knotted straps are very similar to a burden strap in the Musee du quai Branly (18th and 17th century collection from New France)

Condition: fair, water damage, traces of oil on the back; straps are tied in knots
