Birch bark, sweet grass, quills (undyed, brown, white), cotton thread
Lid: Solid white background, with unquilled 2.5" circle in centre, containing a decoration (resembling an animal, probably a porcupine) of 3-dimensional tufted quills. The decoration has three tufts, with the first two trimmed short, and the third formed with the longer hairlike quills, untrimmed and fanning out. Edges are solid-quilled, with the dark quill ends in a scalloped pattern around the circumference. Body: solid-quilled white edges.
Some artists on Manitoulin make boxes featuring porcupines, to refer back to the source of their materials. These usually incorporate the longer 'brush' quills in a 3-dimensional tufted technique. The use of these quills on this box indicate that the 'creature' is a porcupine.
