Introduction

Round 6" quill box. The lid features a beaver (in undyed quills) inside a large maple leaf (in brown, red and orange) on an unquilled background, sweetgrass lid edges, and partially-quilled with linear floral patterns on the body edges.

Birch bark, sweet grass, quills (undyed (brown, white), dark brown, orange, red), cotton thread

Motifs and Patterns

Lid: a small beaver in undyed quills, in the centre of a large brown, red and orange maple leaf, on an unquilled background. Edges are formed of a stitched lip of sweetgrass. Body: A linear pattern with four red quill 'x's flanked by two brown 'fans,' is repeated three times around the sides, on an unquilled background.

Additional Context

The beaver and maple leaf are well-known Canadian symbols.
