Lid: Fully-quilled, featuring a large central scene of a bird among flowers rendered entirely in close-trimmed tufted quillwork, except for a knotted quill in the bird's eye, and some enhancements with a black marker around the flower edges. A ring of fancy geometric quillwork (star-diamond pattern) circles this scene, with the same on the sides, and sweetgrass trim stitched with multicoloured quills. Body: Two rows of fancy geometric quillwork (star-diamond pattern) separated by sweetgrass trim stitched with multicoloured quills (as on the lid). The base trim of both lid and body is stitched with thread instead of quill.
Noted in "Quillwork" exhibition catalogue
Provenance
Likely bought by the OCF for the 1984 "Quillwork" exhibition. Pieces made in 1984 were probably commissioned for this show, but as the date noted in the catalogue is 1983, it was probably an already-made piece.
Exhibited as part of the OCF's 1984 "Quillwork" travelling exhibition.
