folded sheet of birch bark, sides slant out, seams at corners; designs are dark outer layer of bark scraped away to make floral motifs (Mr. and Mrs. Toulose doubted that this was done by scraping, but Ruth Phillips thinks knife marks are visible from the scraping tool)
