Introduction

Haudenosaunee bag beaded in Seneca-style symmetrical motifs on front and back. Front has flap with hook and eye closure. Donated by Mrs. Harold J. Hayes in 1954.

Materials

White, iridescent white, light blue, light and dark green, gold, and pink glass beads.Paper backing with red wool cotton on top (in fragments, not only visible beneath beadwork), only paper is left. Bound with Blue cotton tape. Lined with polished cotton. Beadwork on both front and back and flap. Looped beaded fringe on bottom. Hook on tip at edge of flap, to meet eye on the body of the bag. Possibly brass beads used in fringe, appear to be oxidized.

Condition: Beadwork good, red wool fabric has been entirely eaten away by moths.
