Vegetal fiber, animal wool yarn, buffalo hair
Rectangular bag with design consisting of a stylized thunderbird with a shape like a sheath of wheat (or shortened hourglass) above each shoulder and a zigzag dark line above its head and framed at side by vertical black and red lines. Verso: two underwater panthers, one above the other, facing the same direction, with a row of six dark X's above the back of the panther.
The two underwater creatures on this bags may be a male and a female, with the smaller, hornless creature being female and the heftier, horned creature being male (CW). Or it could be one creature rising from the depths to poke its horns above the water, with the shapes above the top creature being the waves (AC).
Provenance
Pohrt purchased this bag from Angeline Kowegoma, Cross Village, MI, Sept 1971.
