Introduction

Red stroud octopus bag with floral beadwork motifs on central panels and four tabs. Harrington Collection.

red common stroud; multicolored size 10 seed beads; cotton or linen thread

Motifs and Patterns

Multicolored floral beadwork sewn directly on the stroud. Much open space; different patterns on either side of the bag: only one side of the tabs with beadwork. Edging stitch in white seed beads all around edges. Circular beaded discs mimic the holes conventionally found at upper top corners of this style of bag.

Other Notes

The bag is mounted between two sheets of plexiglass, presumably for an exhibit mount and/or a feeble attempt at conservation.

Condition: It is in delicate condition, with many of the beads missing or coming off.
