Plant fiber, glass beads
Small rectangular bag of loom-woven beadwork. Warp and weft are S plied vegetable fiber. Loom woven beadwork. Two strand weft twining (bead replaces twist); continuous warp. Finish at top end: warps replied/grouped/twisted. Buttonhole stitch. Uneven tension.
Design on recto consists of two rows of figures with joined hands (as in paper doll cutouts) in red, green and black on a white background. Verso design consists of six rows of interlocking red and white triangles.
DP describes the figures holding hands as wearing 'thunder skirts' (a half-hourglass shape), with horned figures formed by the white spaces between them. The sandy red and blue comes into use in the 1870s (CW). The triangle shapes on the verso may be half-hourglasses, ridges on the back of the underwater creature (AC), or an ambiguous design.
