List of Blue cloth is end of straps and sewn to back of pouch. Only visible because of poor condition. Has actual pouch. Hide on pouch is on front and back then covered with blue stroud and calico on back. Straps have two ear like strips that extend from each strap at shoulder. Joined with simple running stitch. Straps are backed with hide, but not lined. Pouch and straps bound with turquoise silk ribbon, the inside of tabs and top bound in yellow/ gold silk ribbon and the top of the pouch is bound with mustard yellow cotton ribbon. CW.
Double curve stylized floral design. Transitional. Vines have "hairs." Central panel of pouch: two pairs central double curves coming out of central stars. Bottom is surrounded by a pair of buds and a step. Top one is surrounded by a pair of double lobes. Shoulder motif is bilaterally symmetrical with meandering stem of spirals and buds in spaces created by the curving stems. Edged with running stitch with clumps of three white beads on strap. Pouch- inner side of ribbon binding has couched beads. Probably edged on outer edge as well, but beading is now gone. The strap "hairs" are made of silver metallic beads with white beads at end in opposition to the norm, where metallic is usually an accent. Upper panel of pouch has double row of couched green beads and a double row of scalloped mustard beads. CW.
Very elaborate beaded bandolier bag with transitional bead motif and construction. Extensive usage of punched silver beads would have made this a very shiny and prestigious item when first created. Very interesting transitional piece. CH. MHM Catalog H 29.25 x W 7.25 x D 3. [MHM catalog does not state the unit of measure].
MHM Catalog. CW says probably the earlier, 1830-1845 based on physical description, design and materials.
