Materials

Beaded panels on heavy black cotton cloth, Beads: white, pink, blue purple, yellow, red, beige, black, semi-translucent purple, light blue, red dark gold, Green silk ribbon trim, Liner: printed red and white cotton.

Techniques or Format

Hand sewn throughout with overlaid spot appliqué stitches, All sewing done in white and blue thread (hem and blanket stitch).

Motifs and Patterns

Beadwork panels on front and back applied to red and white print trade cloth backing, Green leaves and multi-petalled coloured flowers placed along double line black stem, Floral design set against solid white background, Panels edged completely with double line of black beads and outer row of spaced blocks of four to five white beads on sides, and undulating row of similar beads along top edge, Pairs of large brownish and gold glass beads sewn in top edge beadwork and also occur singly or in triplet at side ribbon tabs and top side edges, Beads are opaque, semi-translucent, and crystal, All edges of bag sewn with borders of green silk ribbon, Intertwined single line loops of purple semi-translucent and light blue translucent beads dangle from bottom edge, Strap decorated with spaced pairs large brownish gold glass beads sewn down centre with beige cotton thread, Strap completely bordered on two sides with outer single line of red opaque bead with inner border of spaced blocks of white opaque beads sewn in groups of four.
